OK Apple, I get it. I have to upgrade my iOS device from running the beta version of your powerful operating system. It’s a security feature, right? OK, I forgot I had the beta, it had been installed for months. Picked up my iPhone 5, lo and behold, it wouldn’t let me Activate it. I was getting iOS 7 Activation Errors and I also had “Find My iPhone” on in my settings, so iTunes was giving strange errors.
Now I’ll explain how to get this to work for you as after a few attempts myself and some ‘oogling I was able to get the a very simple procedure established. I mean after all, Apple still needs me to jump through a few hoops to get to an iOS release that’s not only legit, but the newest, final release without bugs.
If you are running iOS7 Beta and are getting Activation Errors and/or need to upgrade to iOS 7.01+ follow these simple instructions.
- Upgrade to the latest and greatest version of iTunes (as of writing is was 11.1).
- Turn Off Your iPhone/iPad and Plug into your Mac or PC.
- Turn on iTunes and leave it running.
- Now for the tricky part: Putting your device into DFU (Device Firmware Update) Mode. I guess this is also used for “Jailbreaking”.
- Hold down both the Sleep Button (on top of your device) and the Home Button (on the front underneath the screen) at the same time.
- Hold them both about 10 seconds roughly or until the Apple logo disappears and the screen goes black. Once it does release the Sleep (top) button
- Continue to hold down the Home (front) Button for about 5-10 seconds and let go.
- iTunes should now recognize the device in “Recovery Mode”.
- Click “Restore” and Wait…
